Delete Your Account

You can delete your Nous account and all associated data at any time. This page explains how — both from inside the app (fastest) and by email (if you can't access the app).

This page exists to comply with Apple's App Store guideline 5.1.1(v), which requires apps that allow account creation to also provide a clear way to request account deletion.

Option 1 — Delete from inside the app (recommended)

  1. Open the Nous app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the Profile tab at the bottom right.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Scroll to the bottom → tap Delete Account.
  5. Confirm when prompted.

Your account will enter a 30-day grace period. To cancel, sign back in and tap Keep our account — either partner can do it. After 30 days, your account and all associated data are permanently deleted from our active systems.

Option 2 — Email request

If you can't access the app — for example, you've already deleted it, or you've lost access to your sign-in method — email us and we'll handle deletion for you.

Subject line: Account deletion request

Include in the body:

  • The email address associated with your Nous account.
  • The name or display name you used in the app (helps us find the right account).
  • A short statement confirming you want your account permanently deleted.

We'll confirm receipt within 1 business day and complete the deletion within 30 days, in line with our Privacy Policy. We may ask one verification question to confirm you own the account before processing.

What gets deleted

When you request account deletion, we permanently remove:

  • Your profile (display name, avatar, partner nickname, relationship details, special dates).
  • Your daily question answers and reflections.
  • Your reactions, plant names, and love notes you sent.
  • Your shared garden state, including streak count, completed plants, and unlocked species.
  • Your couple linkage (your partner is also affected — see below).
  • Your push notification tokens.
  • Your authentication record at our identity provider (Clerk).
  • Your subscription record at our subscription provider (RevenueCat). Note: this does not cancel your Apple subscription — see below.

We may retain a minimal record where required by law (for example, transaction records for tax purposes) and may keep backups for up to 90 days before they are overwritten.

How your partner is affected

Because Nous is built around a shared experience, deleting your account also affects your linked partner:

  • The shared garden, streak, and history are tied to your couple — both partners lose access.
  • Your partner will see a notification or in-app message indicating the account was deleted.
  • Your partner's individual profile is preserved if they want to continue solo or link with someone new.

We strongly recommend telling your partner before requesting deletion.

Your subscription is separate

Account deletion does not cancel your Apple Nous Plus subscription. Apple manages subscriptions independently. To cancel:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap your name at the top → Subscriptions.
  3. Tap Nous PlusCancel Subscription.

If you don't cancel, Apple will continue to charge you on the next billing cycle even though your account is deleted. We can't refund or cancel on your behalf.

Why is there a 30-day grace period?

Many people change their mind. Some are emotionally responding to a difficult moment in the relationship and want a way back. The 30-day window lets you sign back in and tap Keep our account to recover everything without losing the garden you've built — either partner can do it. After 30 days, deletion becomes permanent and irreversible.
