Privacy Policy

Effective date: 28 May 2026 Last updated: 28 May 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Nous ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Nous mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.

If you have questions, contact us at noustogether.support@gmail.com.

1. Who We Are

Nous is a relationship app for couples. The App lets two partners share a daily question, see each other's reflections, and grow a shared virtual garden over time. Nous is operated by the developers of the Nous app.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you give us

  • Account details — when you sign in with Apple, Google, or email through our authentication provider, we receive your email address, your name (if provided), and a profile photo URL (if your provider supplies one).
  • Profile content — display name, the nickname you use for your partner, an avatar color, and an optional avatar photo you upload.
  • Relationship details — your relationship stage (e.g., "just started," "married"), special dates you add (anniversary, birthdays), and your selection of which "virtue" your current plant represents.
  • Reflections and messages — your answers to daily questions, your reactions on shared reveals, plant names you choose, and short "Love Notes" you send your partner inside the App.
  • Support correspondence — anything you email us at our support address.

2.2 Information generated by your use of the App

  • Couple linkage — a record that links you to your partner once you redeem an invite code.
  • Activity data — which days you answered the daily question, your streak count, your cumulative answer count, plant growth state, completed plants, and unlocked species.
  • Subscription status — whether your couple has an active Nous+ subscription. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
  • Device data — a push notification token, your device platform (iOS or Android), and your timezone-derived hemisphere (used to align seasons in the garden — we do not collect your precise location).
  • Diagnostic information — minimal logs needed to investigate errors (no IP storage beyond what our backend provider retains for security).

2.3 Information we do not collect

  • We do not collect your precise location.
  • We do not use any cross-app or cross-website tracking, and we do not request App Tracking Transparency permission.
  • We do not use advertising identifiers.
  • We do not sell your personal information to anyone, ever.
  • We do not show ads inside the App.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information above to:

  • Create and maintain your account and link you to your partner.
  • Deliver the core daily question loop — show you the question, save your answer, reveal both answers once you've both submitted, and grow your shared garden.
  • Send push notifications you've opted into (daily questions, partner activity, milestones).
  • Process and validate your subscription through our in-app purchase provider.
  • Provide customer support and respond to your messages.
  • Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and misuse of the App.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your reflections, love notes, or any other intimate content for advertising, training third-party AI models, or any purpose other than delivering the App's core experience to you and your partner.

4. Sharing With Your Partner

By the nature of the App, certain information you provide is shared with the partner you link with:

  • Your display name, avatar, and avatar color.
  • Special dates you add to your shared calendar.
  • Your daily question answers — visible to your partner only after they have also answered that day's question ("asymmetric reveal").
  • Your reactions, favorites, plant names, and love notes.
  • Whether you have answered today's question (so your partner sees a status indicator).
  • Streak and garden state, which by design is shared.

You can stop sharing with a partner by deleting your account (see section 9).

5. Third-Party Service Providers

We rely on a small set of third-party processors to run the App. Each processes data on our behalf under their own privacy practices:

ProviderPurposeData shared
ClerkAuthentication (Apple/Google/email sign-in)Email, name, OAuth identity tokens
SupabaseDatabase, file storage, realtime sync, server-side logicAll account, profile, relationship, activity, and content data described in section 2

Apple App Store / Google PlayPayment processing for subscriptionsHandled entirely by Apple/Google — we never see your payment details
Expo Push Notifications, Apple APNs, Google FCMPush notification deliveryYour push token and the notification payload

We do not share your personal information with anyone outside this list except (a) with your explicit consent, (b) to comply with a lawful legal request, or (c) to protect the rights, safety, and property of Nous, our users, or the public.

6. Data Retention

  • We retain your information for as long as your account is active.
  • When you request account deletion (see section 9), your account enters a 30-day grace period. To cancel, sign back in and tap Keep our account (either partner can do this). After 30 days, your account and all associated data — including your reflections, your shared garden, and your couple linkage — are permanently deleted from our active systems.
  • Some data may remain in encrypted backups for a limited additional period (typically up to 90 days) before being overwritten, and we may retain a minimal record where required by law (e.g., transaction records for tax purposes).

7. Data Security

We use industry-standard practices to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and encryption at rest for our database and file storage. Authentication is handled by a SOC 2–compliant provider. However, no system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If we become aware of a security incident affecting your data, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live (including under the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may have the following rights:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction — update inaccurate information via the App or by emailing us.
  • Deletion — delete your account from inside the App, or email us to request deletion.
  • Portability — request an export of your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Objection / restriction — ask us to stop or limit certain uses of your information.
  • Withdrawal of consent — where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

To exercise these rights, email noustogether.support@gmail.com from the email address associated with your account. We respond within 30 days.

9. Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account inside the App. Because Nous is a shared experience, deletion affects both partners in your couple — your partner will also lose access to your shared garden and history. A 30-day grace period applies before permanent deletion.

You can also request deletion by emailing noustogether.support@gmail.com.

10. Children's Privacy

Nous is intended for adults aged 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at noustogether.support@gmail.com.

11. International Data Transfers

We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process your data in the United States and other countries. By using the App, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries with data-protection laws that differ from those of your country.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you in the App or by email. Continued use of the App after the changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

13. Contact Us

If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding your privacy, email us at noustogether.support@gmail.com.
